We moved in our current house in 1990. I found this newspaper under the underlay. Amazing that he went on to be the president of the WWF.

Found very old newspapers under floorboards, (amongst bits of cabling, copper pipes, empty fag packets and a couple of girlie mags to name a few), over the years. My first flat when I got married had every light fitting in place but inside the pendants all of them had had the wires disconnected and twisted together. Each time we turned a light on the fuse wire blew and I replaced it before trying a different bulb or moving on to the next light. After the third one I decided to check before switching and found them all twisted together. Once I rectified them all the lights worked perfectly.

I wonder why it was sabotaged - an irate previous owner perhaps? There are easier ways - a small coin placed between lamp and BC lamp-holder, works just as well.

Yes Harry, I think the previous tenant was 'asked' to vacate the premises. Easier to put a coin in, I agree, but that would have cost them money. LOL

When we bought our house, the owners tried to have us over for the curtains - they were expensive made to measure swags and tails (I know, but they were popular in the nineties!) at exchange of contracts by saying they wanted a thousand pounds for them - but they were on the list of things being left and included in the sale. I gave their solicitor an hour to confirm they were staying otherwise he could tell them that they could poke the house. They backed down but they literally cut all the lighting wires between the pendants and the ceiling roses. Petty.

Are you a West Ham supporter?

he's been very generous to the Tories.

They look after their own.

Yeah, the two porn barons that own West Ham. When they were still at the Boleyn ground, David Gold would go past my workshop on the way to the ground. At the time he had a gold Rolls Royce with the number plate D6 OLD and he'd ****ed about with the numbers and bolts to make it look like D GOLD. Looked like a right chav numberplate.

Oh bottle opener for the wine n beer lol. Now I am moving again, hope to find something more precious. I've been considering self-packing but having read this article I'm hesitating what to do

I found a painting of the Queen in the loft, which I sold to a Royal memorabilia collector.

Not in my home, but in at least one I have come across, I have seen little fancy metal brackets fixed to the sides of internal door frames, with no obvious use. My best guess would be that they could be used to insert a flower or similar. Anyone know what they are about?

I have a crawl space under my house. If I ever move I'd be tempted to buy a fake skeleton to leave under there to be discovered by the next owner or unsuspecting tradesperson. Then the sensible part of me kicks in and I think the person might freak out and drop dead of a heart attack, then I'd find myself in court! So I probably won't bother.

A German friend found bank notes with a face value of over 300 Billion German Reichsmarks in an old house he had bought to demolish and build new on the site.
