I'm trying to turn off my water to fix a leaking tap. there is a valve underneath my kitchen sink however turning that to its limit seems to have no effect on the water supply to the cold tap. Where am I going wrong?
To save time, go outside and turn off your boundary stop valve. Bear in mind though that you are not allowed to do this, if the tap is old and seized and it breaks and you spring a leak (never happened to me) then you are liable (if they can prove you touched it).
I don't know any plumber that phones the water authority to send out an approved person to turn off the stop valve for £45, then to come back after the job to turn it back on (for another £45).
