Our bathroom had a strip of mosaic tiles around it which one by one pinged off in patches. The rest of the bathroom is top to bottom normal white tiles approx 10cm square.
We eventually removed the dodgy mosaic strip and infilled with plain white tiles to match the rest. BUT before we made the replacement water got through the mosaic strip and behind the rest of the tiles in the shower corner, cracking the grout and causing it to leak.
We took all the tiles off in a large section behind the shower, cleaned them up, allowed the walls to dry and re-applied the tiles. We used mould resistant, suitable for bathrooms type of grout.
Fixed? Not quite - in one small section the grout has cracked again and is leaking. As a temporary measure we have stuck an acrylic sheet over the tiles to cover the crack but that is now coming away and again leaking (and it looks like a bathroom from a student rental house! nice).
The leaky section is approx 50 cms long, 3 horizontal sections of grout. The house is old and walls aren't totally true. The wall in question is an outside wall.
Is it worth removing and trying to reapply the tiles again? Very disheartening to keep doing the same thing if it might not even work.
Any suggestions why the grout would keep cracking in that bit?
