Poor Plastering - Next Steps?

We had our hall, stairs and landing plastered yesterday.
The man we employed did a reasonable job, however he brought someone with him to help and his work is abysmal.
So far we have paid under half of the total amount.

As you can see from the photos, it is a mess. The walls aren't smooth, scrim tape is still visible, the areas around light switches and plug sockets is shocking.

What would your next steps be? Can I refuse to pay? Should he be offered the chance to rectify it, if so, how? Can I ask for a full reskim?

Yes I think you have to speak to him and give him the opportunity to rectify it, at least so he knows you are not happy and his assistant is not up to scratch.

That is the work of someone who has never, ever plastered before. A two year old could do better than that. Yes, give him a chance to rectify, but do not pay the full amount unless, and until you have a satisfactory job.

Don't pay the person.
Contact a real plasterer and pay them to put right.

As an occasional DIY plasterer I’ve always found the art to be ludicrously difficult, and my standards are not high. However, the work in those photographs makes me feel considerably better about my own feeble efforts. Dont give them any more money.

Yep! I find I am better at it now, than I used to be, probably because I have much more time and patience, available to me. Easiest, is patch plastering, where the existing is in good condition, like the OP's need for plastering.

Thats total and utter rubbish.

Do not pay anymore and put the money towards employing a proper plasterer.

Buy cheaply springs to mind.
