The next sentence which absolutely forbids use of handheld microphone is almost a contradiction...

It is true, pedestrians have right of way. It's logical: the green-cross code insists that you DON'T run across the road, which you would have to do if a late-indicating car suddenly decided it was turning onto the road you were crossing. Of course, you should already be looking around the corner as far as you can see... I have noticed some people drive looking dead straight ahead and only straight ahead.

Also, you should have slowed right down anyway, you see far too many "chancers" who turn into roads at a speed that requires them to be over on the wrong side. A 90-degree left-hand turn into a fairly narrow residential road shouldn't really be taken at more than 10mph (second gear idle), with the foot off the throttle until you can see it is clear.

Of course, it depends on the corner, if it is one in a fairly unbuilt area (housing development) then you might be able to see right round the corner and down the road before you get there. But I am assuming a town, with walls and buildings.

8: At a junction. When crossing the road, look out for traffic turning into the road, especially from behind you.
.... If traffic is coming, let it pass. Look all around again and listen. Do not cross until there is a safe gap in the traffic and you are certain that there is plenty of time. Remember, even if traffic is a long way off, it may be approaching very quickly.

Another reason for slow approach prior to turning off left is to exact some control over the anchor stuck up against your boot lid ... If peds are crossing he'll be forced to travel slowly enough to possibly stop .. but will wave his arms and blaspheme from the rusty bullet hole in his purple face .. Defensive driving ... If he is also waving anything from a 9 iron up to a Kalashnikov .. run the peds down and go like manure !!
