Hi does anyone know if you can install a threshold stone at the bottom of an external door by butting it on the sides rather than tieing it in to the brickwork of the building? If you can butt it, how do you manage water ingress?

Background: I've had an extension built, they didn't install the threshold stone due to supply issues. The door has one side flush with the coins of the existing property, the floor level doesn't align with quoins, and the soil stack is bracketed to those quoins. Given this it would be simpler to butt the threshold stone to those quoins and tie in the other side to the extension.

Any relevant advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
