Hi,
This is my first time here and being a homeowner and not a builder/roofer go easy on me!
We have an adjoining parapet wall on a groundfloor extension which is leaking damp through the wall just below the ceiling, with signs of previous damp all along the wall.

From the outside...
For the past 2 months there has been water leaking into the corner of my front bay window through a bracket installed for blinds, the bay window is covered by a pre-made fibre glass flat roof. The slow dripping gets worse when it rains then slows down and eventually stops about 2 days after it...
Hi, I had a look in the loft and there is condensation above the loft hatch, is that likely to be just because there’s no insulation on it ?
Also I noticed some white stuff behind the tiles , not sure what it is ?
There’s also I nsulation stuffed down the eaves which I guess is a good thing ...
Hi
I am looking around at various roofing ideas and stumbled across Britmet tiles, they claim to be able to be used on roof pitches 5 and above. Doesn't this go against building regulations?

Thanks

Ive had a quote to replace lead which is between the house and a flat fibreglass roof (which is also a fairly large balcony area).
The original lead, I am told, was installed wrong, as it wasnt split in to sections to allow thermal expansion and contraction, so it has split.
It also seems to...
I appreciate things are hard to explain without pics but here goes. I have a square house with an attached square garage (just say it is the same size as the house) but this is set forward of the house by around 2 metres. I am building a small extension to the rear of the garage so back of house...
hi looking for some advice would anyone happen to know the growing rate per m2 for applying the liquid I've been given a price of £23 a m2 but have been told this is low so before agreeing would like some more advice
Thanks
Hi all, newbie here. About to try my hand at some roofing on a new shed. Wanting it to look good and last forever, I have gone for 600x300 fibre cement slates.
Perhaps I am going mad, but I cannot for the life of me find a supplier of Slate-and-a-half slates to use on the verges. They all seem...
This flat top roof porch was installed by a cowboy leaving exposed timber to the elements. I want to reroof it. What is the easiest way to do this without the use of a blow torch?!
Hi
I am new to this forum stuff so hoping i do it right and someone can help.
We installed a couple of velux, and have tried to tile round it but the tiles kick up an awful lot around the window, esp at the bottom. Is this right? Velux advised us to use the edj flashing kit but all the pics i...
1 side of my Dormer doesnt have tiles on it?????
We have just finished out Dormer extension
It has Spanish slate on 2 of the 3 sides. the 3rd side is just (what i would describe as a Black fabric)
I only discovered this when i went into our neighbours loft and looked out their window at our...
A loft extension was built next door in 2013, we moved into our home in 2017 and have recently had a survey to get a log burner fitted only to find the loft extension next door is blocking our chimney which now sits half way up their wall and we will need to extend to above their roof costing...
Just had a natural stone roof, I know the stone thickness varies so there’s some gaps but some stone when pressed down lever up the ones above, is this normal cause of type of roof?
I have just installed the following two beams for my loft conversion. 5.1m 203x203x46kg on 100x150x500mm pad stones.
Unfortunately these are sticking through the roof slope.
I have been told by an architect these can be cut at 45 degrees halfway up the beam without compromising the structural...
I have 1940s semi where a gable end slate which is midway has slipped and some other slates on the same gable end which have become offset probably due to the highwinds we had lately. I Also had the gable end barge board replaced last year with a pvc facia.
Whats the best way to fix these...
Hi,
I'm wondering how I fit a tilting batten or something similar that will kick out the eaves/lowest tile on every row of a dormer cheek going up the pitched roof.
If I simply screw a 50mm batten below the horizontal at the same pitch of roof then won't it obstruct the tile further up.
Is...
Morning. I've stripped the rear of my roof this week and re-felted and battened it. I now have a bit of a problem with the over hang on the apex. It seems as though the apex wall has moved out as I had a 25mm gap between my tiles before. Now there all back on I don't seem to have any overhang at...
Hey everyone
New to the forum. Just looking for some feedback on how fellow builders divvy up their work throughout the year. (y)
I tend to do outside jobs like landscaping and roofing in nice weather, and when its chucking it down (a.k.a standard British weather!) I focus on internal jobs -...
Hi there.
I've had some very helpful advice from this forum recently, but need some more if possible.
Just wanted to confirm the insulation specs. The plan is currently;
Floor
75mm PIR insulation laid directly on concrete with glued battens spanning front to back as a fix for scaffold...
What would be the best way to fix a piece of 4x2 to the top of a steel ridge beam?
The 4x2 would be used to fix the rafters to to create a vaulted ceiling.
