Removing staircase

In my basement flat there is a redundant staircase which doesn't lead anywhere (blocked at ceiling level when lifts installed). The underneath is lath & plaster and iron rods hold the treads into the party wall. Can I safely remove the staircase?

Should be Ok to remove as staircases are rarely if ever structural.
