Hi

I want to buy some engineered wood flooring which is suitable for UFH and is good quality. Ive found the below which is the cheapest Ive found at only £26.99. Is 2.5mm enough wood depth? Is it a false economy going with super cheap engineered wood flooring?

Thanks

As a brushed and oiled surface, this floor will mark and discolour from regular house hold dirt and grime very easily, if you think of the issues apparent with keeping a solid wood work surface in a kitchen in good condition, and then place that on the floor and walk on it, that is effectively the product that you would be buying.

You will not wear out the wear layetr with walking on the product, only a sanding of the floor will do that.

As with all woodflooring, you get what you pay for re; aclimitisation, strength and stability. depends on your budget, but you cannot 'grow' a great wood floor cheaply.

Thanks. They do a lacquered version - is that more hard wearing?

It's not harder wearing, but the lacquer provides a surface that protects the wood from dirt, spills and stains. These should sweep or wipe off with Lacquer floor soap and a microfiber cloth.

If wear is imperitive then you should be looking at 18mm or 21mm thick engineered flooring as the 'wear' comes from the thickness of the top wear surface and this dictates how many times and how much the floor could be sanded if you so wish.

Of bigger concern are cheap Oak floors that are not constructed too well as these can bend, buckle and move excessively causing at best, squeaks and at worse uneven floor surfaces or lifting.

Buy the best spec you can in your budget, but if your budget would go for a better quality floor from a manufacturer like V4 Flooring for example, the end result will be a better lasting and looking floor.
