Dishwasher is a Favorit 54750VI. I can select a program and the machine appears to get going; I can hear the pump running and some water being discharged through the waste pipe, then it takes on cold water, finally I can hear a noise like the whine of an electric train as it moves off from stationary. Pretty much immediately after this it stops with 5 pairs of beeps and flashing 'Rinse, Intensive and Normal'. There is no evidence that any water has ended up on the dishes.
I've tried turning off the water supply to check the error code changes to the one expected, and also took the side off and checked the leak detection mechanism (pressing the microswitch to go open circuit gives the expected error).
Does anyone have any suggestions for what might be wrong or what I could try next? Is there a longer list of problems than the one in the manual I have?
