Can anyone help with this? New aluminium external doors have been measured 20mm short on both sides and fitted. Fitters have foamed in but left the gap.
Any ideas how to fill this and weatherproof?

It needs matching beading or skirting, along with glue and sealant. Your "fitters" have not finished "fitting" it. This should be part of the job.

You can get black plastic trim, would probably do the job. But it isn't going to be pretty whatever, it should have been the right size, with a thin gap at the edge that a neat bead of sealant would cover.

Try looking here...

The expanding foam is temporarily weather proof but the UV light will turn it orange and make it brittle.

I agree with @Ivor Windybottom that the install is incomplete. Perhaps ask them why they left it like that.

Thank you all. I’ll call the company in the morning about replacement doors. They’re back at the end of the week to install a pane of glass that was dropped at the depot so I’ll recommend the trim for the meantime. I’m covering the foam with external filler as it’s going to rain in the week. Definitely won’t do longterm.

The foam as it is should be rain proof for the next few weeks. Filler over the top many cause problems down the line if you are simply face filling it.

Is that because the filler will prevent normal movement?

Someone else has advised that the only decent fix apart from new doors that fit, is to take the doors out and get matching packers / extensions added to the sides.
How does this sound?

Horrid. Its all sealed in. Get them to fit two cover trims either side and forget about the gap.

Give it a bit of a slam while watching the frame/wall joint. If there's any movement anywhere then it's pointless trying to tidy it up. Hopefully it's been well packed out and the screws are long enough to give a good hold despite the extra reach needed. If it's solid then the UPVC trims would make it look much less terrible and weatherproof/insulate it. Someone reasonably talented should be able to make a nice mitred frame by trimming its width so it covers the gap and just laps over the edge of the frame.

If it's not solid then trims definitely won't hold it in place, and there's no good way of fixing it now it's all gobbed up with foam.

If you've paid someone for a fitted door and they measured it then it would be vastly preferable to get a new bigger door.

Thanks. I’ve given the frame a good push and slammed the doors. Nothing noticeable. They will be back here tomorrow to fit the missing glass, mastik and see what they say about the sizing. Also to sort out a gap between the opening doors (see pic). I’m not full of confidence these doors will keep the cold outcome winter. We’ll review our options after tomorrow. Like you said though, I can’t see any trim that’s going to look nice.
