Auto locking Wink Haus mechanism

A friend lives in a communional flat.

When he leaves his flat, he needs to lift the door handle and use a key to lock the door. He would rather that it locked when he closes the door.

I have had a quick look at the product.


It seems to suggest that the hooks automatically engage when the door is closed but that the rectangular lock bolt does not. Can the door be tweaked so that a key is not needed to lock the door on exit? He just wants to make sure that if he walks out, someone else can not push the handle down and open the door?

The centre deadbolt only engages when after closing the door you put your key in the lock and turn it, thats when its 'double locked' much like a traditional yale lock where you double lock it as you leave, in terms of the AV2 lock yes you can just close the door and walk away, you don't need a key after that unless you want to double lock it

However, he says that if he closes the door as he leaves, without lifting the handle and using the key, he can open it by simply pushing down the handle.

Is it possible that the fitters intentionally tweaked it to stop people accidentally getting locked out?

He would prefer that if he simply closes the door, it will not be possible to open it from the outside without a key.

Right, AV2 like you linked to are generally used on composite doors that use pole handles ie just a fixed vertical handle and not the type you lift to engage the hooks, your friend is quite right with what he says, if you have a lever/lever handle set up right now then your better off using a lever/pad handle but this will also depend on whether the locking mechanism has a split spindle facility, this is where the outer handle is not directly connected to the inner so pushing the outer handle down will not disengage the locks, however even a lever/pad set up isn't slam and go, you'll still need to lift the outer handle up(the pad) to engage the locks and then lock it using the key, the AV2 and 3 are true slam and go. You could I suppose fit an AV2 and associated locking keeps for the frame but then disconnect the outer handle from the mechanism by either using a fixed pad handle or using a half spindle for the inner handle only
