    Walsall Corporation double decker 1953

Thank you Big All. Yes, there is no pneumatic on the bus. It first saw service in 1953 so is neatly as old as me. It’s not an instant project. It probably last moved 40 years ago, except for the inches we moved it for access to the rear. I get plenty of advice, (unsolicited), to rewire it...

That would be my guess but I’ve yet to find one. But consider the scenario, the bus is parked and the doors are closed. The driver presses the button which opens the circuit. This would presume the circuit was energised all the time it was parked.

    Walsall Corporation double decker 1953

This is a long shot. I am restoring this bus at Transport Museum Wythall, and I’m struggling to understand how the electric door gear works. I wasn’t expecting to start on this yet but with the side panel off it was too good a chance to miss. There are two limit switches beside the motor which...

Induction hob failing with a loud bang.

Hi thought I’d share a recent project with you lovely people. A while back, a Tefal induction hob (single plate), we bought failed with a loud bang. My first reaction was it didn’t cost a huge amount so bin it. Then my recycle side stepped in and I decided to investigate my it had failed. If you...

Beko CDA 653 FS/1 fridge freezer. Fan continuosly running and fridge is now a freezer.

Is this caused by the timer board mounted on the back. I read that they were a problem on 2000 to 2006 models but this is a 2010.

    Your worst Electrical DIY Disasters!

Had occasion to discover so more dodgy dig recently, thought I'd share. Customer wanted more downlights installed in a new ceiling over stairs and other work including a CCU change. Board had three B6 MCB's but no markings. So for safe isolation I turned each off in turn and the lights stayed...

"bell out cables" trade term referring to using an audible device connected to a battery and cable to prove continuity.

    Downlighters - must be fireproof?

    Floor sockets

Now you're just being silly, how would a madam open one of those without breaking a nail.

change 2 gang 1 way light switch in kitchen - wiring probs!!

Firstly, lighting is rarely on a ring circuit. You seemed to have lost the feed to the hall lights, are you sure the two reds feed the lights? Your gonna need to bell out the cables I'm afraid.

    Downlighters - must be fireproof?

Personally I would never fit anything other than fire rated downlights, even if they are fitted with LED lamps. BUT I have fitted non fire rated ones in a building where, because of the solid upper floor, there was insufficient space to accommodate the large can.

    Floor sockets

Thanks guys, I knew I could rely on you. Client has opted for the flapped variety as the boxes run at £150 each and the cheaper (and easier to install) ones are approx £50. :D

    Floor sockets

Having gone back to the client with the selection of finishes she now states she wants to be able to have it plugged in and a lid closed on the plug. The only ones I have seen that fit te bill are too big, three double sockets. Has anyone seen single outlet boxes?

Thanks I never thought to put 5A in the search criteria. all I got was 13A.

    Floor sockets

Hi folks I've not been on here for a while, far to busy keeping the customers happy. I am doing a large refurb at present and the spec calls for two floor sockets for table lamps, these are supplied from a dimmer beside the door. All the lighting by table lamps is on three round pin sockets. I...
