    Shower cord replacement

"Mucho Krappo". A long time ago, up till say early 70s MK was often considered the best (there Logic rand sockets were only SP switching though, whereas Crabtree were DP switching) , but things went downhill and they live on their historical good name and that held them in good stead for many...

Bi and Omni directional RCD's how can one tell what has been fitted.

I looked on the IEE forum Wiring and the regulations yesterday an seem like they are having a similar discussion about it.

Running a cable around a corner

I must admit that I saw that as essentially 3 walls, One with the red socket on it, one with the blue socket on it and the third on the short wall between them because it steps the other two back "dog legged" fashion, this short wall joining to and at 90 degrees to to other two would have been...

Running a cable around a corner

Yup. If it is 300mm or less then the whole wall is a safe zone being 150mm each corner. If it exceeds 300 mm and there is no socket etc for cable location then there is no safe zone between the corner portions.

It just started blowing the fuse when I switch it off.

The radio must be on and drawing a min amount for the sound output to minimise annoying noise of dryer, yes owt is possible especially when you make your own "Logic Gates" to operate things in the times before all this new fangled WiFi and Blue tooth etc, some of the things done to elimate...

    Adding to light circuit

You can do that on any circuit. Once upon a time, not really that long ago, the only way to fit any RCD was pretty much as a separate unit in an enclosure and the use it inline with the tails or use them on the outgoing ways of each circuit you wanted to protect. Then along came consumer units...

Bi and Omni directional RCD's how can one tell what has been fitted.

I must admit that it would be very rewarding to get a credible explanation and then see what we are missing. I`m starting to get that Monty Hall feeling feeling about this one. I`d be more than happy to get the answer then kick myself for missing it. I think I`ll look on Amazon to see if they...

Spot on with that comment Sunray, I tend to look two ways in such a situation 1/ take what info the customer says as accurate 2/but bear in mind that it could be wildly inaccurate. It often comes to light during the solving of the problem the reason why you have not been told the truth, often...

Yes I think we could all write a book about what customers tell us and what we suspect the reality to be. Sometimes they do deliberately attempt to deceive due, often, by embarrassment. Sometimes they are unaware what a friend or relative has done on their behalf. Sometimes they have totally...

Bi and Omni directional RCD's how can one tell what has been fitted.

Yes Indeed John, that was my point. I can`t see you can`t see, some others might not see yet some others again might see. Can the secret be shared to enlighten us, it may well be that we are missing something here and if so we need to know, if only to correct our knowledge/understanding. I`m not...

Bi and Omni directional RCD's how can one tell what has been fitted.

yes that is the only option i see. in other words, it actually works and trips when it should, whichever way power is transferred but some (electronic withinn the RCD housing itself) parts will not disconnect when intended to or is designs too. It is not easy to see what detriment would actually...

Is my existing feed suitable for this:

yep, if you treat 2 x 2.5 as 5.0mm conductors and a 3.0 earthwire then you will not be far wrong, although a little bit of interpolation on the current carrying capacity, volt drop and expected Zs might be required because they are non standard sizes to look up in tables. The nearer the lengths...

well its got me flummoxed too. just a thought - I wonder if someone on this forum could ask the esteemed JW to do one of his excellent youtube articles for us mere mortals ;)

Taylor Wimpey new build sockets/plugs query

"16mm are only suitable for light switches." And I might add not well really for more than 1 gang one way either. I`d always use 25mm min, in fact loads of dimmer switches would not last very long, when filament lamps were the norm, with 16mm even if they fit, poor air circulation.
