    Garage Wall Replacement

If the ground was soft and you had access from both ends i would try raking it out with a narrow rake attached to a metal pole, would be a lot easier than taking out the wall, and how would you point up the replaced sections of brickwork?

Water fed cutoff saw vs block splitter

You would probably need a cut off saw for some of the cuts anyway, so just get yourself a saw and not bother keep hiring a block splitter and a cut off saw when needed, you could always sell it on when finished.

    Mortar type

The chances are it is sand and cement, as lime mortar was rarely used in the late 50s.

What's the weight of 0.62m³ of 10mm ballast?

Check with them regarding the bags, most merchants sell in bulk bags which weigh around 800kg, but still commonly called tonne bags, you may need to top up with 25kg bags.

    Modern Slavery

Sounds like a family business, no longer buy the big issue as it was no longer sold mainly by the homeless.

    Screeding for block paving

Set your levels all out with string lines, you may find you need to reduce the MOT in some areas, so do that first before ordering more MOT, add your block height and bedding layer ie 100mm to top of line.

    What’s wrong with this DRIVEWAY

The existing drive was broken up and MOT put down (photos on another thread) it also looks ok with DPC level, i agree with Noseall and Kingandy about the slope and workmanship, some of the detail is a bit ropey, but for half the cost of a Marshalls approved installer they have a functioning drive...
