New government consultation on classic and modified cars

Your mate should be able to re-register the Scammell. it won't need any more brakes than it had when it was built. There are lots of veteran cars on the road with only rear brakes. If the vehicle was recorded by DVLA as havig been scrapped, then it can't get its original number plate back...

New government consultation on classic and modified cars

Guys, just a heads-up for everyone on here. This arrived in my "work" inbox just now. Looks like an informal government consultation on the future process for registering (among other things) classic cars. If there are any classic car buffs on here, this may be of interest, so I just thought I'd...

Ford squaring up to UK and EU

Here's one EU manufacturer's take on the situation. Of course, it's no secret that China is BMW's biggest market, but it does show that this is by no means a one-way street: https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/bmw-tells-eu-not-afraid-095736905.html

Ford squaring up to UK and EU

I wouldn't be in such a rush to write-off the American, European (and Japanese) car manufacturers, just yet. Remember a couple of years ago, Tesla was going to take them out? It hasn't happened. Chinese manufacturing costs are rising. Yes, they're still lower than ours, but off the shop...

Ford squaring up to UK and EU

I think there's a degree of posturing and sabre-rattling from Ford there. They do, of course, have the option of doing exactly that, but other manufacturers (and not just the Chinese) will be only too happy to fill those gaps. If they think they can make those sales back up in the EU, good...

    EV are they worth it?

Technically, it's not a car, it's a "quadricycle". There are plenty of them around, like the Citroen Ami: https://www.citroen.co.uk/ami or the smaller (and somewhat easier on the eye!) version of the Renault Twizzy...

    Peugeot brake pedal rubbers?

The advice in the MOT inspection manual seems to give you quite a lot of leeway:

    Peugeot brake pedal rubbers?

Dealer or maybe find someone who is breaking one on eBay, and ask for photos of the rubber before they send it.

    Morris J Type

No reason why it couldn't be done. There might have to be some concessions to current regulations, but perfectly possible to make something that looked like that.

    EV are they worth it?

Yes, it's disappointing how selfish people can sometimes be. I think more EV charging companies should move to a tariff that charges both by the kWh and by time. For example, you could have a tariff that charged by the kWh for 30 minutes and then by the kWh plus (say) another £10 for every 30...

    Tesla magic running low

Mine certainly doesn't. It's an "old school" brushed motor. https://open.mit.edu/c/maca/4q1/bmw-electric-motorsno-neodymium Others are moving away from rare earths: https://eepower.com/news/eliminating-rare-earth-elements-in-electric-motors/#

    EV are they worth it?

Yeah, I think it probably was. Mine sometimes makes a quiet noise from the fan when I'm using the heating or Aircon when stationary, but even so, you'd have to be pretty thick not to know. There's a similar one doing the rounds, where its a car park attendant trying to move a Tesla off an EV...

    Tesla magic running low

Er...no...not really. Many EVs contain no rare earth metals. Those that do, certainly don't need them to run, only to build. Most of the world's lithium comes from Australia, which, last time I looked, was definitely not "third world" and definitely a democracy...

Ever wondered where the precious metals in your cat come from...?

    EV are they worth it?

Sounds good. How far do you get for £0? (I've just been from Workington to Blackpool and back today. Stopped to charge for a grand total of 5 minutes, while I went and got a can of drink. Delighted to say, it still hasn't set itself on fire...)
