    Changing a light fitting

Photo attached to show the fruits of all the good advice given by you guys. Found the rose with this fitting stupidly shallow, and had to cut the original choc block into individual connectors to make the cables fit. Still very tight and I was wondering: is it possible to buy an adaptor of some...

    Changing a light fitting

In all honesty, it took me a while to work out what you meant by “pigtails”. Having done so, a plan is starting to take shape, thanks to you guys. I’ll cannibalise the wires from the old light fitting to the existing block to make those pigtails , and as you suggest connect them from the rather...

    Changing a light fitting

The photos were taken with my 4 year old iPhone, so misrecognition of colours is entirely forgiveable, Harry. ;)

    Changing a light fitting

That's very helpful, thanks. Seeing the situation a little more clearly now.

    Changing a light fitting

Thanks very much for the replies. For some reason I tend to develop a blind spot when it comes to working out electrical connections, IF they're not absolutely straightforward: ie, live to live, earth to earth, neutral to...etc. I'll study your posts and try to overcome this lack of...

    Changing a light fitting

Afternoon all I'm replacing an old B and Q light fitting with a new one from the same source, but I'm slightly stumped. There are two light switches in the room, one at each door, so presumably this makes the wiring slightly more complicated. So could someone please explain to me how I...

    Shower cord replacement

As a DIYer I've recently fitted the Crabtree shower switch which is recommended above. Its a very solid unit and there's plenty of room inside for the cables, unlike other switches I've come across.

Laminate in same direction as floorboards...

I've got lots of spare time, and I intend to do plenty of "dry laying" before I settle on a final plan, thanks.

Laminate in same direction as floorboards...

Thanks for the response. I think I'm best laying parallel with the longest wall because for one thing, it means far fewer cuts.

Laminate in same direction as floorboards...

Morning all Currently decorating our lounge, a room roughly 17.5 feet long by 11.5 feet wide. Planning to lay laminate because we have a dog who likes to attack carpets, for some reason or other. The room has four inch T and G floorboards; its in good nick and level, so I don't plan to lay any...

    Crazed plaster on party wall

Exactly what I'm doing, thanks. We intend to hang a feature wallpaper in the alcoves and on the chimney breast, so I've started by hanging 1400 lining paper to smooth out any irregularities in the wall surface caused by the cracks.

    Poor Plastering - Next Steps?

As an occasional DIY plasterer I’ve always found the art to be ludicrously difficult, and my standards are not high. However, the work in those photographs makes me feel considerably better about my own feeble efforts. Dont give them any more money.

    Crazed plaster on party wall

Currently in the process of preparing the lounge of our 1965 semi-detached bungalow for decoration. Whilst removing the wallpaper I discovered crazed plaster on the party wall ( photos attached). There was no hint of the cracks on the wallpaper that I've just removed and the surface feels solid...

    Another diversity consequence

I'm tempted to express surprise that your brother is allowed by his managers to pursue such people, and not told quietly to "lay off" in order to benefit the "bigger picture" of diversity and inclusion. Bigger even, perhaps, than the protection of old folks from lawless and scruple-free ripoff...

    Another diversity consequence

The user name is a jocular reference to my once-chaotic approach to DIY. Whatever alternative connotations you might infer are entirely of your own making.
