    Self build extension costs

Nice work! Thanks. I’ve done a fair few bits on my current house so it’s given me some experience. Especially as that’s involved fixing so much poor work done by the previous owner. I’ve reclad the dormer stripping it right back to frame, garage conversion, refit a flat roof, changed all the...

    Self build extension costs

That’s the worry I have. It won’t be to a high standard but I’d probably go the render route so I guess it doesn’t matter too much. I assume most of the assistance tools you get with bricklaying are a bit gimmicky other than the corner levelling things. Are there alternatives to brick and...

    Self build extension costs

Its probably the one that makes me the most nervous. Plastering is probably technically more difficult with timings etc. But if you mess it up, a bag of plaster isn't much. I've done no brick laying at all so I'm wary of then taking on a full extension. I think for me its getting the mix right...

Slow going - my double storey extension build

Absolutely stunning what you've done with it. Thanks for pointing me in your threads direction. Really helpful! Exactly the colour scheme I'd have picked with the render and cedar. Very jealous!

    Self build extension costs

Nice, that the one just behind the shopping park? I'm usually using MKM as my mate has a trade account with them so they usually do loads of things cheap for me when I need odds and ends. He gets on well with them which helps my case!

    Self build extension costs

Ah just down the road, what are the odds! Which merchants did you tend to favour when sourcing materials? Did you do much shopping around? Will take a look now, thanks. Yeah, its one of my main concerns. Wondering if there are cheaper alternatives I'd be more comfortable doing myself that...

    Self build extension costs

I'm tempted to go the block route and have it rendered. It would save matching the bricks up it up but again rendering is a pricey job. Just depends how much it saves going the block route and whether there is enough there to cover that. I do love the aesthetic of a light render with some wood...

    Self build extension costs

I'm guessing at that price its a 1 storey extension? That sounds really cheap, great effort! Any tips on keeping costs down?

    Self build extension costs

Thanks Noseall, yeah wary of issues such as that. Its the sort of thing I'd be checking before buying the house. We have a huge sewer run under our current house and through the garden. One drain had been buried in our house under dirt and some decking! I rectified it when I put in a porcelain...

    Self build extension costs

Hey everyone I’ve had a look round on the forums and can’t find any recent threads on this. Costs are always moving so that’s a big issue for me. We are looking to move soon but struggling to get the size we need for our price point. So one of the options is to get a smaller house and extend...

    Removing plaster from boards

Thanks Wayners. Happy to do the reboarding and skimming. I’ve done that in my conservatory and got on ok. How is the mesh and plaster when it comes to ripping it out? Assume it’s not too bad as long as you find the nails?

    Removing plaster from boards

Yeah. Judging by the rest of the house and things I’ve had to sort, they didn’t know what they were doing (or didn’t care). I’m tempted to rip that part out to be honest as it just looks terrible. Probably quicker to do that part that way.

    Removing plaster from boards

Thanks Wayners. Is it worth scraping/sanding a bit to get it flat to make the skim easier? Getting one of those orbital sanders on a pole to sort some other rooms out anyway. Guessing for under the staircase it’s easier to just smash it. I’m less worried about that part as loft conversion was...

    Removing plaster from boards

Photos attached. Something up with the coving as it’s almost flush in some spaces. Which means I’d have to take them off to skim it. Wouldn’t be an issue if wasn’t for the fact the walls are lining papered. I don’t get what they were going for with the stairs. Think I’m going to have to rip...

    Removing plaster from boards

It is but I need to trim some of it back as they’ve done a weird take around the stairs where it goes over the wood slightly. I’ll upload some pictures later.
